Khasekhemwy, also known as Khasekhemui, was the eighteenth and final pharaoh of Early Dynastic Egypt, and the eighth and final pharaoh of the Second Dynasty of Egypt. The successor to the previous pharaoh, Khasekhem, Khasekhemwy ascended the throne in the midst of a religious civil war, assuming control of a divided Egypt, particularly on the side of the Followers of Horus. Somehow, Khasekhemwy brought the war to an end, either through military victory or through negotiation (either way resulted in a Horus victory), and re-unified Egypt. The rest of his reign was relatively long, but by the time of his death, the Second Dynasty was over. Khasekhemwy's death not only brought an end to his dynasty, but led to a political transformation of Egypt, culminating in the birth of the Old Kingdom of Egypt.
