The Creative Assembly Limited (trade name: Creative Assembly) is a British video game developer based in Horsham in West Sussex, England founded in 1987 by Tim Ansell. In its early years, the company worked on porting games to MS-DOS from Amiga and ZX Spectrum platforms, later working with Electronic Arts to produce a variety of games under the EA Sports brand. In 1999, the company had sufficient resources to attempt a new and original project, proceeding to develop the strategy computer game Shogun: Total War which was a critical and commercial hit, allowing them to kickstart a brand new franchise that would become their bread-and-butter for the distant future, spawning numerous spinoffs and sequels. As each new title built off the success of the Total War title that came before it, the company's critical and commercial success continued to grow.

In March 2005, Creative Assembly was acquired by Sega. Under Sega, Creative Assembly entered the console market, with titles such as Spartan: Total Warrior, Viking: Battle for Asgard, Alien: Isolation, and Halo Wars 2. In March 2017, Creative Assembly bought Black Sea Studios, a Bulgarian developer under Crytek, and rebranded them Creative Assembly Sofia, which would go on to produce two DLCs for Total War: Rome II and develop Total War Saga: Troy.
