The Second Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, also known as Dynasty II, covers the second series of Egyptian pharaohs who ruled over a unified Egypt, as well as the last to rule over Early Dynastic Egypt. The first of these rulers was Hotepsekhemwy, who founded the dynasty after being triumphant in a civil war, and the last of these rulers was Khasekhemwy.
The Second Dynasty was brought to an end when Khasekhemwy died. Still reeling from the coup de'tat years before, Egypt was once again stricken by a civil war, this one between the followers of Horus and Set. By the time the war ended, Khasekhemwy's son ascended the throne, beginning the Third Dynasty.
