Christianity is a religion prominently featured in multiple Total War games. Christianity appears in almost every historical Total War title, with exceptions being Rome: Total War (although it does appear in the expansion Barbarian Invasion), Total War: Three Kingdoms and Total War Saga: Troy. Christianity role in the games can differ based on the time period, being an incredibly relevant and significant cultural juggernaut in Medieval: Total War and Medieval II: Total War, a foreign but rewarding influence in Shogun: Total War and Total War: Shogun 2, and so forth. In many cases Christianity, like most of the religions present in the series, serves as an important mechanic crucial to maintaining public order and important to a faction's sense of identity, providing either bonuses or penalties depending on circumstance, influence or conversion.
Throughout the Total War series, three denominations of Christianity exist: the Catholic church, Orthodox church and the Protestant church. The Catholic church is the successor to the Church of Peter in Rome. The Orthodox church is the successor to the Church of Andrew in Constantinople, and in the games represents the numerous Slavic, Greek and Russian orthodoxy denominations homogenously. The Protestant church represents all separatist post-reformation churches such as Lutheranism, Anglicanism and Calvinists.
